November 11 is Veterans Day, a national holiday that commemorates the accomplishments and sacrifices that men and women in the military service have made to protect our country and our freedom. To honor the contributions of Ohio veterans, Explore Ohio is recommending two sites this November. The Ohio Military Hall of Fame recognizes soldiers awarded medals of valor for battlefield action. The Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame acknowledges inductees for their civilian contributions after their military service. Please, take a moment this month to honor Ohio's veterans by visiting these websites.
To help limit the cost of your travels, Discover Ohio recommends visiting Microsoft Network's Local Gas Prices. Just fill in the zip code for an area in which you will be traveling to find the location of the lowest gas prices. Prices are updated daily on this site.
This month marks the 40th anniversary of National Library Week. During the week of April 13 – 19, Americans will recognize the contributions that libraries, librarians and library workers make to preserve and improve our way of life. Why not take this opportunity to visit some Ohio library websites and discover what they have to offer? You can use OPLIN's Find an Ohio Public Library page to search for libraries by name, or you can browse by location using an interactive map.
The first site is ExploreOhio's own Ohio Women. Here, you will find links to information about historically significant Ohio women and links to institutions in Ohio that collect and preserve manuscripts that document the experiences and achievements of women in history.
August's site of the month is the State of Ohio Identity Protection website. The State of Ohio developed this site to inform Ohio's citizens, state employees, and others potentially affected by the recent theft of a state data storage device. It features recent updates about the data theft as well as information and advice about data protection.
As the weather is improving, Ohio's fair and festival season is getting into gear. You can learn about the many fairs and festivals in Ohio by visiting Ohio Fairs and Festivals. These pages feature links to the most accurate and up-to-date information about over one hundred fairs and festivals in Ohio.
May is also playoff time for spring high school sports. Find out when and where sectional, district, regional and state events will be held by visiting the Ohio High School Athletic Association's Spring Sports Tournament Schedule. More specific information and tournament results are available by selecting 'Sports and Tournaments' from the main menu of the Ohio High School Athletic Association's homepage.
Finally, because Memorial Day is the holiday when we stop to remember people who are special to us, but who are no longer living, ExploreOhio is featuring OPLIN's guide to Ohio Cemeteries. This site is a must for people trying to locate cemeteries in Ohio.
